There are 18 teachers, 15 of whom are working voluntarily, but three of them get from time to time financial support from Islamic Relief Organization. There is a clinic that is not functioning but there is a doctor and two nurses who are willing to run it. There are 419 pupils in the school named after the late martyr of Eritrean struggle for independence Gumhed Idriss. School supplies including books, pencils, etc are also needed.

 Despite huge cash flow generated from foreign investors in the country –Djibouti hosts three key military bases belonging to high profile Western countries namely France , the USA and, Japan. It also houses the international center for fighting piracy. The country is the only maritime outlet for Ethiopia, a nation of 60 million consumers .

During our Joint Fundraising Appeal, there were several groups and organizations of the Afar Diaspora who have shown wiilingeness and interest in contrubuting both in kind and in cash to the APDA’s Water and Sanitation Project, as the Fund from the EU requires that the applicant must contribute with 25% of the project cost as “Match Funding”.
