A JOINT STATEMENT,
By the AFAR FEDERAL ALLIANCE (AFA) and
By the KUNAMA FEDERAL PARTY (KFP).
THE TIGRAY PEOPLE’S LIBERATION FRONT (TPLF) THE ONLY RULING PARTY IN ETHIOPIA, IS ENSLAVING AND VICTIMISING THE AFAR AND THE KUNAMA INDIGENOUS PEOPLE.
The indigenous Afar and Kunama are fiercely peaceful proud indigenous people who trace their ancestry (history), back to times immemorial and have the terms of their traditional customs, based on humanity, good relations with their neighbours and belief that all people are equal and have equal rights.
Since the Abyssinian warlords established the Central state of Ethiopia, the sense of equal rights has been invaded by all senses of suppression. From that time to the present days, the Afar and the Kunama people have always been excluded from any national development package; the only choice they have had being either the assimilation with Abyssinian culture or face total exclusion. Thus ethno-phobia, dislodgement, marginalization and elimination have deliberately and systematically been imposed on our people and, in fact, it has been worsening our situation and our daily living conditions. During the past two decades, also the pseudo democracy of TPLF, EPLF/PFDJ joint-venture and the economic fraud they brought about, has increased the crisis to its zenith and facilitated the destruction of all the rights of our two people.
As a result of this ill-willed policy and destructive politics, the Afar and the Kunama people are daily facing critical survival challenges and are living a life of misery. The most significant and critical problems facing the Afar and the Kunama are the political misrepresentation (suppression), land invasion, physical elimination, economic deprivation and the planned systematic extinction.
The so-called “reformists“, are not only invading our native lands and destroying our cultures, but they are invading our dignity, enslaving our younger generation, by using and misusing them, as if they were easily disposable elements. The concrete evidence of such praxis is the recently taken place event where our freedom fighters were sent to liberate parts of the Akele-Guzay region and some of them fell victims of that attempt, as free hand mercenaries, and on behalf of their own political opponents, whose very forces are invading and occupying their own respective native lands. This is a policy of disaster and therefore it is the right moment to uncover the hidden agendas of these two Tigreyan regimes and condemn them both, it is however and only a question of context and of timing. In reality the TPLF political and economic nature does not differ much from the EPLF/PFDJ regime's oppressive politics.
More than in any other time, our people are being intentionally subjected to constant marginalization drives, territorial invasion, resettlement projects under pretext of development and implementations; thus ever more increasing political and economic crisis of extreme poverty, diseases, slavery and systematic physical elimination of our respective ethnic-members, by administering them poisonous injections which gradually destroy their internal main organs, and of those fallen in the hands of such criminals. Recently in Assab city four ethnic-Afar prisoners, died immediately after their release, due to such criminal practices. Similarly we believe that the recently released prisoners also will soon die in the same way. Similarly, and as widely reported and commented on, twenty-six (26), ethnic-Kunama members prisoners, were mass-poisoned, mass-murdered and buried in a mass-grave, by the PFDJ regime's security forces, in the environs of Maidma (Eritrea). This is certainly, an intolerable conduct and criminal practice.
We very strongly oppose and reject any imposition of a discriminatory dogma, purely of the racist character and of a criminal nature. Similarly we do totally refuse to succumb to the habits of dictating the political fate of our people.
The new slavery and free-hand mercenary types of policies, imposed on our gallant patriotic fighters have become a matter of grave concern.
Discrimination and continuation of colonial legacy, including ill-willed policy of elimination of our people, by the two Tigreyan regimes, is growing and causing political catastrophe that will affect the lives of most people in the region, for decades to come.
In conclusion, the Afar Federal Alliance and the Kunama Federal Party do refuse to be slaves and victims of the two Tigreyan ruling forces and condemn the TPLF, (Tigray People's Liberation Front), the sole-ruling party in Ethiopia, for failing to protect the Afar and the Kunama indigenous people and the EPLF/PFDJ, the sole-ruling party in Eritrea, for a list of injustices, including exclusion, oppression and systematic elimination of the ethnic-members of the two indigenous people. These are endless past and present deceptions and conspiracies we have uncovered and therefore and define as social, political and human rights usurpations, forcing our people to a life of misery and leading those two ruling forces to a shameful end.
The TPLF (Tigray People's Liberation Front), now ruling in Ethiopia, through its Sana'a Forum's and other agenda, has rendered inactive and powerless the leaderships of the two ethnic-based, Afar and the Kunama organisations. The two leaderships, have not only been made incapable of, but also blocked from whatever activities, they and some of their good-intentioned members, do and would initiate to help their people in their refugees camps or bring about democratic principles and changes within their organisations. Practically, the two leaderships have become docile servants of the TPLF's rulers and consequently enslaving themselves and the entire Afar and the Kunama refugees in their respective camps and blocking the initiatives and the activities of their respective ethnic-members in the Diaspora.
We are appealing to the U.N. and requesting its immediate protection and close supervision of the living conditions of the indigenous Afar and Kunama people in Eritrea and in Ethiopia.
Since the two ruling regimes are signatories to the U.N's “Human Rights Charter”, the UN has a moral and legal obligation to compel the two parties into implementing its “Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People, adopted by General Assembly No 31/295 on 13/09/2007”.
We aspire to see a genuine and healthy democratic environment in Eritrea, in Ethiopia and in the rest of the Horn Regions.
The AFAR FEDERAL ALLIANCE (AFA) and
The KUNAMA FEDERAL PARTY (KFP):
